How to Self-Assign to a Vehicle Using an NFC Sticker

This guide explains how to use the RandONE mobile app to quickly and securely assign yourself to a vehicle using an NFC sticker.

This process assigns your driver profile to the selected vehicle, ensuring accurate trip logging, compliance tracking, and telematics data.

1. Setup

Before you start, ensure you have the following:

  • RandONE App installed on your smartphone
    • Apple App Store: [Insert App Store link]
    • Google Play Store: [Insert Play Store link]
  • Signed in to your RandONE Account
You must be logged into your user account with an active driver profile and driver permissions.
  • Vehicle Access Permission
You must have permission to access and drive the vehicle you wish to assign yourself to.

If unsure, contact your Fleet Administrator.

2. Enable NFC on Your Smartphone

For Android:

  • Go to Settings → Connections → NFC and toggle ON.

For iPhone:

  • NFC is automatically enabled on iPhone 7 or later. No setup required.

3. Assign Yourself to a Vehicle

  1. Open the RandONE App on your smartphone.
  2. Locate the vehicle’s NFC sticker (usually positioned near the driver’s side dashboard, door pillar, or windscreen).
  3. Hold your phone close to the NFC sticker (within 2–3 cm).
  4. When your phone detects the sticker, a prompt will appear at the top of your screen:
    • Tap the prompt to open the RandONE app link.
    • The app will automatically identify the vehicle and display its details.
  5. Once tapped, you will be automatically assigned to the vehicle linked to that NFC tag.

You’ll receive an on-screen confirmation

Important Notes:

  • If you are currently assigned to another vehicle, you will see: “You are currently assigned to Vehicle ABC. Do you wish to assign to Vehicle XYZ instead?”
  • If another driver is currently assigned to the vehicle, you will see: “John Smith is currently assigned to Vehicle ABC. Do you still wish to assign to this vehicle?”
  • You cannot assign over the top of someone if the driver field is locked to their name.

4. Ending Your Vehicle Assignment

When you complete your journey and aren’t planning on being the next driver to use the vehicle, you can unassign yourself by simply re-tapping your phone to the NFC tag again.

If you have left the vehicle, follow these steps:

  1. Open the RandONE App.
  2. Tap Driver ID in the bottom-left corner.
  3. Select the blue button “Unassign Me.”
  4. Confirm to unassign yourself from the vehicle.

You’ll see a confirmation message
