How do I use the Search Query function?

The Search Query feature in the application, allows you to target your searches to specific fields. It also allows you to use Wildcards to search fields that begin with, end with or contain partial values or Sets to search for multiple values in the same field.

To help explain this further, let’s start with how the primary search field works first. This uses Generic Search to search using wildcards by default e.g. if you enter Vehicle#7 the application interprets this as * Vehicle#7 * and searches fields for values that contain Vehicle#7. The fields that are searched across by the application is relative to the report or module that you are currently viewing.

For example, in the Assets module, a search value entered into the primary search bar will search across the following fields;

  • Asset ID (Asset Identification Number)
  • Asset Label
  • Vehicle Registration

By extension when you select a Search Query option such as VIN in the search bar this will apply a field-specific search, which by default is a binary or restricted search of the specific field you have selected from the Search Query menu with the added capability of Wildcards and Sets;

Search Query using Wildcards:

  • If you select Asset Label from the Search Query menu and you type *Vehicle#7 in the search bar the application will search the Asset Label field for asset labels ending with Vehicle#7
  • If you select Asset Label from the Search Query menu and you type Vehicle#7* in the search bar the application will search the Asset Label field for asset labels starting with #7
  • If you select Asset Label from the Search Query menu and you type * Vehicle#7 * in the search bar the application will search the Asset Label field for asset labels containing Vehicle#7

Search Query using Sets:

You can also create Set search queries in the search bar when using Search Query options. This is done by adding multiple search parameters separated by a comma.

Example Set Search:

Select the Asset Label Search Query option and in Vehicle#7,Vehicle#12,Vehicle#22 into the search bar. The application will then search the Asset Label field for asset labels that are equal to any one of the values you have entered into the search bar.
